SL Steam Locomotive - KG1 Kagoshima Main Line Sleeper Limited Express Hayabusa
1973 Kagoshima Main Line Sleeper Limited Express Hayabusa
[Sleeper Limited Express Hayabusa]
This train was operated by Japanese National Railways (JNR) and its successor, JR, between Tokyo and Kumamoto (until 1997, it ran to Nishi-Kagoshima, now Kagoshima-Chuo) via the Tokaido Main Line, Sanyo Main Line, and Kagoshima Main Line.
As a scheduled JR train, it was the longest-distance passenger train in Japan from the discontinuation of its former rival, Sakura, on March 1, 2005 (Heisei 17), until its own discontinuation.
With the discontinuation of the Naha and Akatsuki trains connecting Keihanshin (Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe) and Kyushu from the service on March 14, 2008 (Heisei 20), it became the last scheduled overnight express train directly connecting the Kanto, Tokai, and Keihanshin regions to Kyushu, along with the Fuji which was coupled with it, from March 15 of the following day until its discontinuation.
