Scroll painting by a distinguished person
This is not a hanging scroll, but perhaps a hanging board? Longer ones seem to be called hashira kakushi (pillar covers). It was found among my mother's tea ceremony utensils, so it might be used similarly to a tea scroll.
There is a seal of Ryusho, a Great Buddhist Master (I believe he was the head priest of Koyasan). Abe no Ryusho was also a medical scholar and a distinguished figure who served as the head priest of Koyasan from 1985 to 1990. He passed away in 2006.
I'm not sure of the type of wood, but it's a finely grained, straight-grained board with rounded edges on both sides of the surface. The crucial point is whether it's handwritten or printed. Based on the slightly unclear red seal in the upper right corner and the slight bleeding and fading of the ink, I believe it is handwritten, but I cannot guarantee it. Please judge for yourself by zooming in on the images. Width: 9cm, Thickness: 5.5mm.
