Black Mist is a soft filter that sandwiches extremely fine black diffusing material between optical glass. It reduces contrast between highlights and shadows, creating a soft depiction and a unique light diffusion effect. The appeal of Black Mist is that you can achieve a cinematic atmosphere right out of the camera, without retouching.
Black Mist No.1 is the standard soft effect in Kenko Black Mist, and has been a well-kept secret filter cherished by professional photographers since its release in 2002. Its recognition grew from 2018, and in 2020, the release of Black Mist No.05, with half the soft effect of Black Mist No.1, led to a surge in Black Mist's popularity.
In 2023, Black Mist Protector was released, offering a weaker soft effect equivalent to 1/4 of Black Mist No.1, designed to be left on the lens. With three types of lineups, you can choose the one that best suits your scene and purpose.
